A super competitive morning of evenly matched play did wonders for the Northern Chill 16U Blackout girls as the Espanola-based crew went on to capture bronze in the afternoon at their first OVA tournament of the season in Alliston.
The northern girls went three sets right out of the gates with the Lakeside Nimcha from Oakville at the Provincial Cup - Trillium Green D event, beaten two sets to one (18-25, 25-21, 14-16), but bounced back nicely to sweep past the Vaughan Legends Onyx, 27-25, 25-12.
The sweep secured top spot in pool B for the Blackout crew as all three teams finished at 1-1. A favourable quarter-final matchup allowed the Chill to qualify for the final four by virtue of a 25-19, 25-22 victory over the Shockwave Snakes from Toronto.
The Smash Raiders Wave (Hamilton / Waterdown) proved to be too much to handle for the squad being coached by Nick Hannah in the semis – though they were not about to head home empty-handed. Thanks to a 25-15, 25-17 score-line, the Northern Chill Blackout earned bronze, downing the Waterloo Tigers Ascent.
Amber Brizuela, Jada Brohart, Selena Chiblow Carpenter, Hannah Donnelly, Lexi Fisher, Savannah King, Kate Neufeld, Anna Olsen, Arabella Otosquaiob and Cadence Piché were the proud recipients of the hardware, with Terri-Lynn Chiblow (assistant coach) and Laurie Donnelly joining Nick Hannah on the team staff.
