The Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club contingent are off to North Bay this weekend, site of the Dominique Bouchard Invitational. The local crew had but a few days of training to squeeze in as the team just made their way back last Sunday from the Gus Ryder Memorial Cup at the Etobicoke Olympium, hosted by the Lakeshore Swim Club.
Highlight performances included the showings of SLSC swimmers Dax Hester (M14 – gold in 800m freestyle – 8:42.32; 200m butterfly – 2:25.90; 400m freestyle – 4:14.96 – as well as seven silver medal swims) and Owen Baas (M17 – gold in 800m freestyle – 8:41.74; 400m IM – 4:38.76; 200m breaststroke – 2:24.12 – as well as earning gold as part of a 400m freestyle SLSC relay team).
Joining Hester at the top end of the national M14 800m freestyle rankings is Sudbury teammate Noah McGregor, who finished second in Etobicoke in the event, a smidge back of Hester at 8:42.38. McGregor also earned a bronze medal in the 200m backstroke and the 400m freestyle and added a team gold in the Male 13-14 400m freestyle relay.
