The Basketball Super League now has their slate of teams confirmed, with a schedule to kickoff on December 29th - and the defending champion Sudbury Five have confirmed a four-player core of returnees looking to lift the hardware at Sudbury Arena again next year.
With the London Lightning taking a one-year leave of absence and the Saginaw Soul opting to wait one more winter before entering the loop, the BSL is now a five-team circuit, with Sudbury joined by the Windsor Express, K-W Titans, Montreal Toundra and the Lake Erie Jackals (formerly the Jamestown Jackals.
Coming off a five game championship battle with the Windsor Express last April, the Five have confirmed the signings of four-year team veteran and fan favourite Duane Notice, sharp-shooting guards Charlie Marquardt and Allen Billinger, as well as bench energy guard Nervens Demosthene.
Marquardt and Notice finished the 2024-2025 campaigned separated by just a single point in total scoring (653 & 652), the tandem trailing only Ja'Myrin Jackson (672).
With the latter struggling to make an impact in the finals, the one-two punch of Marquardt and Notice were crucial to their team's run to the title, with Billinger playing some of his best basketball of the season in the final.
This past summer, news circulated that Sudbury sparkplug Diego Bernard had signed with the House of Talents Kortrijk Spurs of the Pro Basketball League in Belgium while ultra-friendly forward Lewis Djonkam has inked with the Capital Seahawks of the TBL in Maryland.
