Four weeks into the senior boys high-school football season and the Confederation Chargers have done little to make me regret their selection as the favourite to walk off with the championship trophy this fall. In fact, the question that has now emerged is simply: can anyone give this throwback SCC team a legitimate run for their money?

In bouncing the Lively Hawks by a final count of 35-0 on Friday, the Chargers improved their point differential to a whopping + 167 (174-7) - and have done it largely on the strength of a running game that cannot be stopped (even when you know its coming) and a defense that is absolutely smothering.

Mason McLaughlin paced the Chargers attack against Lively, recording a pair of touchdowns with solo scores courtesy of King David Igiehon, Colton Savage and Tucker Lalonde. Domadius Aziz converted all five majors for the league leaders.

The only team to put up points on Confederation, the four-time defending champion Lo-Ellen Park Knights continue to roll over the balance of the field, blanking the St Charles College Cardinals 49-0 this week to improve to 3-1.

Sure-handed receivers Quin Mazzuchin (3 TDs) and Noah Skrobot (2 TDs) were front and centre on the attack for the Knights while Mishal Olanrewaju and Noah Ranger capped off the touchdown brigade.

Place kicker Luca Cucullo was spot on with seven PATs as the Knights pulled dead even with the St Benedict Bears thanks to a 28-2 triumph by coach Junior Labrosse and company over the Lasalle Lancers, though the Bears matchup with the Chargers awaits them this coming Friday.

The Bears received six-point efforts from Oliver Poupore, Dylan Nelson, Keegan Adair and Lucas Gutscher, all of which were followed by a successful point after attempt from Mateo Bedoya. The Lancers only points came courtesy of the defense as Maddox Preston helped his team record a safety touch to avoid the whitewashing.
