A 1-2 record at the recent Mississauga Southwest Baseball Association 11U Select Tournament provided some building blocks for the Sudbury 11U DS Shamrocks recently, though the coaching staff was likely even more pleased with the team's willingness to swing the bat on the weekend.

After recording nine walks in a 9-6 loss to the Royal York Cardinals in their opening encounter, the Shamrocks came out with "bats 'a booming" in their final two outings, racking up no less than 16 hits in the process.

That aggressiveness at the plate paid dividends in game two as Preston Rickard and Dante Grottoli belted out three hits apiece, helping the Shamrocks jump out to a 7-1 lead and holding on for a 7-5 win over the Martingrove White Sox.

Even in a 13-2 loss to the powerful host team (Mississauga Twins), the locals were taking their rips, collecting six hits including a pair from Emmet McAvoy.

Sudbury starters Jack Taylor, Karson Dempster and Emmet McAvoy all garnered valuable experience as the team readies for their next tournament from July 25th to 27th (Vaughan Vikings U11 Select Tournament).

Once on the base paths, nothing was slowing the 11U Shamrocks down as Deklan Gattoni, Huxley LeClair, Blake Lamarche and Beckett Deforge all swiped multiple bases, with Walker Reid, Luke Pavacic and Ava Tonnos rounding out the Sudbury lineup (Colin Tibble was unavailable for this tournament).

The month of August will also be a busy one for the Shamrocks as the group plays host to a Northern Showcase weekend from August 15th to the 17th.
