The Sudbury U13 A Lady Wolves would have dearly loved to double down at the OWHA Provincial Championships earlier this month.

But despite going undefeated in three games, following up a 2-0 win over the Brantford Ice Cats with back to back ties with the St Catharines Brock Jr Badgers (3-3) and Whitby Wolves (2-2), the team did not advance beyond pool play.

Thankfully, the girls had the memories of a championship run in their league playoffs to ease the disappointment from the all-Ontario playdowns after safely navigating their way through four rounds of action in March and April.

The Lady Wolves kicked things off by sweeping past both the Toronto-Leaside Wildcats (4-1 and 3-0) and the North Bay Jr Lakers (4-0 and 2-0), advancing to a semi-final series with the Belleville Bearcats.

The Sudbury U13 A girls rolled to victory in game one as Taylor Poirier, Juliana Smith and Kailyn Inglis all hit paydirt in a 3-0 win. Game two produced an even more impressive effort as Jordyn White and Taylor Poirier scored two goals each in a 6-1 win over Belleville.

Meredith Sonnenburg and Olive Simon rounded out the scoring as the Sudbury squad moved on to a single game showdown. And what a game it was.

Playing the South Huron Sabres for the very first time all year, the Lady Wolves found themselves deadlocked in a scoreless tie as the final buzzer sounded to signal the end of regulation time.

Overtime, however, would not last long as Théa Dupuis drilled home the gold medal winning goal less than four minutes in, rewarding the shutout effort of Ava Wicklander between the pipes.

Remaining players on the team were Brielle Chamberland, Zoey Rietkoetter, Madden Poirier, Taylor Croskery, Zoe Gatien, Adriella King, Jill Ferguson, Talia Gladu and Maelle Angus.

The team staff assembled head coach Yves Poirier, assistant coaches Dave Gatien, Brad White and Joey Dupuis, trainers Jodi Alexiuk and Jennifer Smith and team manager Melissa Simon.
