The numbers are impressive - but that's not what jumps out at coach Logan Lafleur about his highly unselfish GSBA (Greater Sudbury Basketball Association) Sudbury U17 Storm boys basketball team.
Not unless one appreciates the entire spectrum of the numbers, including the highlight from a recent tournament title out of town.
"One thing that really stuck out to me was that here we are, in a tournament, and instead of getting stats for themselves, the team's main concern was making sure everyone scored at least once," noted Lafleur after his team posted a 4-0 record at the event.
Their run included victories over the Oxford Attack (74-43), Oshawa Commanders (71-25), Napanee Hawks (83-42) and, once again, against the Oxford Attack (89-36).
Cade Kirwan averaged 17 points per game throughout the tournament to lead the Storm offensively, with Ben Turner netting six three pointers in the final and Kobi Elendu chipping in with 15 points as well.
But the main takeaway for coach Lafleur was a far more comprehensive view of his team.
"Every person on the court always makes the extra pass to get it to the open man," he said. "They truly play for each other and want to see each other succeed."
The remainder of the lineup for the U17 Storm boys (coach Lafleur) features Christian Wreegbo, Michael Seccaspina, Christipher Dirige, Ryder Hewlett, Lunden Runia, Addison Denomme, Rashaun Corbiere and Anderson Parent.
