On to post-season play for both of the Cambrian Shield varsity volleyball teams.
The men will take a ten game winning streak into their cross-over match Sunday afternoon (February 9th) at home versus the Algonquin Wolves after sweeping past both the Sheridan Bruins (25-19, 25-19, 25-13) and Niagara Knights (25-17, 25-15, 30-28) at home this past weekend.
The Shield finished the season with a record of 14-4, trailing only the Humber Hawks (16-2) but capturing the tie-breaker with the Fanshawe Falcons (14-4) thanks to winning a total of five sets in their season split with the London crew.
That second place slotting in the West draws Cambrian opposite an Algonquin squad that posted a record of 8-10, sliding into seventh place in the OCAA East Division race.
Game time on Sunday is 1:00 p.m. at the Cambrian gymnasium.
The Shield women, however, have to hit the road.
A weekend split with Sheridan (25-21, 25-16, 25-12) and Niagara (32-30, 24-26, 21-25, 25-23, 14-16) means that Cambrian is one of three teams with a regular season record of 9-9, losing the tie-breaker to Fanshawe but edging Mohawk in that same regard to earn the middle of the pack fifth slot of ten in the West.
Ironically, that placement also means that the Shield will face Algonquin on the women's side as well, though that match will happen on Saturday in the nation's capital at 2:00 p.m.
OCAA volleyball quarter-final play will take place the following weekend (February 15th & 16th), followed by the final four championships the very next week.
