More good news out of the Sudbury Cyclones camp.
Just a month or so after confirming the promotion of the League1 Ontario men's team, the Cyclones confirmed that they are both adding a women's team as well as moving their U21 men's team over from Ontario Soccer League (OSL) play to compete in League1 Ontario League 2 Division action this summer.
The Sudbury women will enter in a similar fashion, part of the League1 Ontario League2 Division in 2025.
"After establishing our foothold in the League1 Ontario community on the men's side (in 2024), we were determined to create equal opportunities on the women's side," said Cyclones General Manager Dayna Corelli in a team-issued release.
"This is about providing a clear pathway for young women and creating mentors for generations of girls to come. I am incredibly proud to be part of this historic moment for Sudbury soccer."
Guiding the women's team in a coaching capacity this summer will be Ross Moynihan, the native of Ireland who was at the helm of the U21 Cyclones women's team which participated in the OWSL (Ontario Women's Soccer League) last summer.
Additionally, the U21 men's team will now serve as a primary training ground for aspiring young talent looking to eventually crack the top end Sudbury Cyclones roster.
Information regarding league schedules for all teams should be announced some time in March with play expected to begin in late April.
