There was absolutely nothing "routine" about the performances of the Sudbury Artistic Swim Club tandem of Eva Jessup and Heidi Fink last weekend in Etobicoke.
Competing at the January Routine Competition, the pair performed a total of three routines, two of which earned first place ribbons.
One of the 15 athletes entered in the Junior Free Solo bracket, Eva Jessup topped the charts with a score of 127.3375 - this in her first year in this particular age grouping.
"Her routine is all about "confidence" and that is exactly what we saw from her when she entered the pool," noted SASC head coach Courtney Stasiuk-Mohr, who is assisted by fellow coach and former local swimmer, Emily Binks.
Jessup and Fink then unveiled their Willy Wonka themed routine in the Junior Free Duet, besting eight other pairings with their score of 119.3833 (with the second place finishers well behind at 103.4521).
Finally, Fink also found herself in the top third of the field in the Junior Free Solo, her score of 121.7583 enough to vault her into fifth place overall in the event.
"Emily (Binks) and I are heading back to the drawing board to make a few minor adjustments to their routines, aiming to refine and enhance them further before we head to the Leslie Taylor Ontario Cup (February 13th - 16th - Markham Pan Am Centre)," noted Stasiuk-Mohr.
