Defending champion Claire Dubinsky (Kakabeka Falls) and her rink of Rylie Paul, Bella McCarville and Lily Ariganello overcame an opening draw loss to the Idywylde Golf & Country Club rink of Sophie Perreault, Vivienne Bolestridge, Gracie Schmidt and Caitlyn Connors, but cruised through seven straight victories thereafter, including a lopsided triumph in the final of the NOCA U18 Championship in Timmins on Sunday.
The Dubinsky quartet finished with a record of 6-1, just ahead of Deanna Chilton (5-2) from the host McIntyre Curling Club, the latter edging Lily Wright (Kakabeka Falls) 5-4 in the semi-finals before being ambushed by Dubinsky and company.
Making their first appearance at the event, Team Perreault dropped a pair of games after their surprise victory out of the gates, then beat Team Wright 7-2 before again losing their next two.
The Sudbury entry would close off round robin play with another 7-2 win, this one over Rihanna Third from Cochrane in earning some valuable experience at provincials.
On the boys side, the Justin MacKay entry from Sault Ste Marie (Kamdyn Julien, Carter McClelland, Jake Clouthier) turned the tables on Team Winters (Riley Winters), bouncing back from a 9-2 loss on Saturday afternoon and toppling the North Bay Granite Club crew 7-3 in the final.
The winners will now prepare themselves to compete at the Canadian U18 Championships from February 16th to the 22nd in Saskatoon.
