The stage is set for three classic tilts to decide the 2024 SDSSAA Senior Boys Volleyball Division "A" champions.

In a season that has seen far more parity across the board than in many previous years, a pair of quarter-final battles on Monday has now left four teams standing.

The Horizon Aigles, who medalled at the 2022 OFSAA "A" Championships in Sudbury, swept past the Lockerby Vikings 25-14, 25-17, 25-22 in the 6/3 matchup in Val Caron, earning a date opposite the Lo-Ellen Park Knights on Wednesday evening.

"Honestly, this team just wants it more," said left-side attacker Greyson Seifert on the heels of a very solid win for head coach Guy Perreault and company.

"We really want to go for that city final and we're willing to do whatever it takes," added Seifert, also a standout with the Northern Chill U18 boys team. "Last year, we were a little dead at times and this year, it's all energy."

"We bring it all the time and lay it all on the court."

This was likely not the interview that Seifert might have imagined just a small handful of years ago, the bulk of his youth spent in pursuit of basketball dreams - until his grade 10 season.

"I realized that I could actually go far with volleyball, so I dropped basketball in grade 11 after about 12 years of that," he said. Just two years later, he sees the volleyball court in a completely different manner, learning the intracacies of his position.

"For me, when I jump up, I actually take a look at the blocker in mid-air and see where they are," Seifert admitted. "I look up at the ball first, see where it is, line myseif up and then jump up, look up at the blockers and hit around them."

With his relatively late entry to the sport, the 17 year-old with the super agressive serves did not have much choice but to fast-track his learnings.

"There is still a lot to learn," said Seifert. "You're always going to learn. You're going to learn every game; you're going to learn what you did wrong and what you did right."

"There are things, minor things that I think in my head and will work on, even when I get home sometimes."

The remaining semi-final will see the first place Macdonald-Cartier Panthères play host to the Lasalle Lancers for the second time in the past two weeks after the Orange & Black outlasted the Champlain Requins in four sets - 26-24, 19-25, 25-20, 25-23.

The finals will take place Monday at the home of the highest remaining seed, with the SDSSAA Junior Boys "A" finals preceeding this match.
