Usual suspects and new faces both in the mix with SDSSAA boys volleyball
2024-10-23

There might be a changing of the guard in SDSSAA senior boys volleyball come the end of the season, but for the recent Chelmsford Flyers Tournament at least, it was many of the usual suspects on hand.

The Lockerby Vikings and Lasalle Lancers met in a rematch of the 2023 city final, with the Lancers prevailing at CVDCS in three closely contested sets: 25-22, 22-25, 17-16.

Lasalle advanced by virtue of a three-set win over the Lo-Ellen Park Knights (21-25, 25-20, 15-13) while Lockerby disposed of the Confederation Chargers, also in three sets (25-17, 22-25, 17-15).

That said, it's the Macdonald-Cartier Panthères who carried an undefeated 7-0 record into the ir battle with Lo-Ellen Wednesday, with a meeting with Lasalle set for Monday (October 28th) at ESMC.

The Lasalle roster that claimed gold in Chelmsford includes Mackenzie Alisappi, Rashaun Asar-Corbiere, Sylas Asare-Corbiere, Bryce Broglio, Peter Leonard, Will Mackey, Davis Mackinnon, Alameen Salami, Alazar Stevens and Reid Zakamarko.

The junior championship affair in Chelmsford also featured a pair of schools expected to at least contend for the SDSSAA banner in a couple of weeks as Lo-Ellen (5-1 in league play) swept past Lasalle (4-2 in league play), 25-23, 25-16.

The top of the SDSSAA junior standings remain a logjam as Macdonald-Cartier and the St Charles College Cardinals sit at 6-1, followed by Lo-Ellen, the Horizon Aigles (5-2), Lasalle and Lockerby (3-3).

Playoff action in boys volleyball kicks off on Monday November 4th with championship encounters set for Monday, November 11th.
