Sudbury rising tennis star picks up the win in Guadeloupe

Sudbury tennis sensation Avery Alexander captured the first ITF (International Tennis Federation) event of her young career, beating fellow Canadian Laurence Demers from Quebec in the final of a tournament last month in the Carribean island of Guadeloupe.
Seeded 7th entering the event, Alexander toppled American Sevi Clancy (6-1, 3-1 – retired) in round one and got the better of Ninon Carpentier from France (6-3, 6-4) the next day. Quarter-final action also featured an international flavour for the long-time member of the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre, with Alexander defeating Charlotte Narti, also from France, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.
In an all-Canadian semi-final, Alexander downed Kiera Taylor 7-5, 6-0, earning her shot at the title.
