Sudbury tennis sensation Avery Alexander captured the first ITF (International Tennis Federation) event of her young career, beating fellow Canadian Laurence Demers from Quebec in the final of a tournament last month in the Carribean island of Guadeloupe.

Seeded 7th entering the event, Alexander toppled American Sevi Clancy (6-1, 3-1 – retired) in round one and got the better of Ninon Carpentier from France (6-3, 6-4) the next day. Quarter-final action also featured an international flavour for the long-time member of the Sudbury Indoor Tennis Centre, with Alexander defeating Charlotte Narti, also from France, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4.

In an all-Canadian semi-final, Alexander downed Kiera Taylor 7-5, 6-0, earning her shot at the title.
