There wasn't a great deal of fanfare recently in Richmond Hill for the Sudbury U10 AA Wolves – though there probably should have been. The local SMHA (Sudbury Minor Hockey Association) squad capped off an unforgettable season, capturing their fourth tournament banner of the campaign at the Mary Parkinson Memorial.
Regional Silver Stick champions earlier this year and second place finishers at the International event, the Wolves played to a 3-3 tie with the Guelph Jr Gryphons in game one before posting three straight shutouts to close out round robin play.
The Sudbury U10 lads disposed of the Stouffville Clippers, TNT Tornadoes and Richmond Hill Jaguars as goaltenders Loucas Couture and Sebastien Boyer surrendered not a single goal against.
Semi-final action was no contest as a pair of goals from Alex Brujic paced the northern squad to a 6-0 win over the Spirit. Luke Pavacic, Hudson Gray, Mason Aubrey and Nathan Arnold added one goal apiece with Couture recording his second shutout of the weekend.
A rematch in the final with Guelph was scoreless through the opening frame before Jaxon Wicklander dazzled with a lovely solo effort, giving Sudbury a 1-0 lead. The NOHA champs pulled away in the end as Hudson Gray scored twice in the third, with Dexton Cardinal adding another and Sebastien Boyer making it stand in a 4-0 win.
With a final season mark of 51-8-8, the top-ranked team continues to prepare for the beginning of AAA play which begins in the north at the U12 age bracket (most of the remainder of the province starts AAA hockey at U10).
In addition to the championship banners already noted, the U10 AA Wolves also returned home with gold medals from the Hamilton Huskies Classic and silver from the South Simcoe Storm Classic.
Rounding out the highly successful roster that compiled an overall record of 51-8-8 this year were Nico Brujic, Cassius Mars, Luca Appolloni, Kamden Barlow, Max Clark, Bennet Gertz, Huxley LeClair and Zack Zanatta.
