Things were not looking so great for the Greater Sudbury U14A A ringette team at provincials last month in Waterloo.

A tough 3-2 loss to the Sault Ste Marie Ice Hawks would see only Quinn Armstrong and Mia Michaud find the back of the net for the locals, with a key goal still hard to come by in game two as Sudbury played to a 4-4 draw with the Timmins Tornadoes.

Lauren Dupuis opened the scoring for the nickel city girls and added another goal in the second period, with Mia Michaud drilling home her second in as many games - but it would take a tally from Zoe Charbonneau with 1:41 remaining to avoid a second straight setback.

A good night's rest seemed to help on Friday as goaltender Chloé Savignac stopped everything that came her way, leading Sudbury to a 2-0 shutout of the Forest Xtreme as Taylor Wragg and Mia Michaud struck late for the winners.

One could really sense things coming together in game four as Sudbury exploded for four goals in the first period, taming the Dorchester Dragons 5-1 as Quinn Armstrong and Mia Michaud netted two goals apiece, the final one coming courtesy of Lauren Dupuis.

Needing a win to secure a playoff berth, the GSRA reps recorded a huge 3-2 triumph over the Sunderland Stingerz, with markers from Zoé Charbonneau, Mia Michaud and Lauren Dupuis making the difference.

This, however, would mean a Sunday morning rematch with Sault Ste Marie - a contest that turned out to be a mismatch as Sudbury netted four quick goals, jumping out to a 5-1 first period lead and holding on for the 7-3 semi-final victory.

Cora Dippong and Taylor Wragg paced the attack with two goals apiece with solo efforts contributed by Mia Michaud, Sophia Doyle and Lauren Dupuis.

A Sudbury - Sunderland final went right down to the wire - and then some as the teams needed overtime before the Stingerz walked off with a 4-3 win, capitalizing on the power play in extra time.

Lauren Dupuis found the back of the net twice in period two, with Zoé Charbonneau getting on the scoresheet in the second as Sunderland rallied back from a 3-1 deficit.

Rounding out the Greater Sudbury U14 A ringette crew lineup are Emily-Mae Young, Sara Levasseur, Kara Kirkey, Lauryn Plourde, McLaren Gieselman, Isabelle Laplante and Ashlyn Doyle.

A robust team staff included Claire Gieselman, Eric Levasseur, Joel Michaud, Laura Wragg, Teri-Mae Armstrong and Yves Savignac.
