Coming off a solid win over the London Lightning in the first ever Basketball Super League game, the Sudbury Five looked ready to roll over the hometown K-W (Kitchener-Waterloo) Titans on Saturday, building up a 21-point lead at the half - before giving it all back in quarter three.
Trailing by one heading to the fourth, the Five outscored the Titans 34-25 to post a 122-114 victory, improving to 2-0 as they prepare to face the Montreal Toundra in Québec next weekend.
Sudbury featured a three-pronged attack as Jalen Hayes (24 pts), A.J. Mosby Jr (23) and Duane Notice (22) showed the way offensively, with Cody John and Evan Harris adding 13 points each off the bench.
Curtis Hollis led all scorers with 31 points for KW, followed by Jaylon Tate (21), Jaquan Lightfoot (16) and Demetrius Barnes (12) in the first game of the season for the Titans.
Generally a challenge for Five teams in the past, this current edition of the squad won the battle in the paint, out-rebounding KW 58-48 and shooting better than the homeside in all three facets, including the free-throw line (83% vs 62.5%).
The Five are back at home on the weekend of January 12th and 13th, hosting the London Lightning and Pontiac Pharaohs on back to back nights.
