Host team takes out U13 Wolves in quarter-final play
2023-12-17

Sure, there was some rust in the game of the Sudbury U13 AAA Wolves - almost three weeks between outings will do that to any time - but when all was said and done, winning three of five and advancing to the quarter-finals of the Vaughan Kings Classic two weeks ago was not a bad showing at all.

The locals provided a Canadian welcome to the Philadephia Hockey Club in game one, bouncing their U.S. counterparts 5-3 as Coen Chretien, Sam Frappier, Myles Talbot, Padraig Courtney and Preston Hebert all lit the lamp for the AAA Wolves.

Facing a more deeply traditioned program in game two, the Sudbury lads fell 7-3 to Detroit Little Caesars as Coen Chretien (2) and Sam Frappier scored in a losing cause.

Needing to maximize their goal differential, the team went to town in game three, blasting the Toronto Titans 9-0 as Padraig Courtney and Preston Hebert each buried a hat trick in support of the shutout netminding of Brayden Bouillon.

Cameron Swartz chipped in with a pair of tallies, with Sam Frappier netting the other as the Wolves continued to show improvement with every passing game.

No reason to take their foot off the gas as the lads torched the Upper Canada Cyclones by a final count of 8-0 with Preston Hebert made it back to back hat tricks, Sam Frappier drilled home a pair and goaltender Max Barros picked right up where his netminding partner left off.

Padraig Courtney, Vincent Tarini and Ryder Penny all pulled the trigger once each as the Wolves earned a spot in the final eight.

Unfortunately, their run would end one game later with a 7-4 loss to the Vaughan Kings, with Hebert regsitering his eighth and ninth goals of the weekend, With Sam Frappier and Padraig Courtney joining him on the scoresheet.

"We progressively got better as the weekend continued, shaking off the rust from having not played in a while," said coach Vagelli Sakellaris.

Rounding out the Sudbury roster are Van Sakellaris, Sheany Gray, Carson Barr, Andre Beaudry, Jonny Croome, Max Falcioni and coaching staff Joey Talbot, Eric Hebert, Sean Gray and Brad Croome.
