It will be a mix of old and new faces that first take to the court on December 28th versus the London Lightning as the Sudbury Five continue to add pieces to a lineup they believe can lay claim to a championship title in the newly created Basketball Super League.
While names like Evan Harris (entering his third year with the Five) and Haroun Mohamed (former Laurentian Voyageur - back for a second season with the Five) are familiar ones, so too might be Keljin Blevins - for a different reason, altogether.
A 28 year-old native of Hot Springs (Arkansas), the 6'4" small forward recently signed by Sudbury coach and GM Logan Stutz will bring an NBA pedigree to town, having spent two seasons (2020-2022) with the Portland Trailblazers.
A graduate of the Montana State Bobcats program, Blevins vauled from a stint with the Motor City Cruise (G League), earning a spot with Portland as an undrafted free agent.
"Keljin is a huge piece for the Five," said Stutz in a recent team media release. "Fans will enjoy watching him as he provides excellent two-way play and a high intensity level."
In Evan Harris, fans will see more of a known commodity, the 37 year old 6'9" power forward played 35 games with the Five last year, averaging 4.5 points per game along with three rebounds a game, solidifying the squad with his veteran presence.
On the younger side of things, Stutz also added seven foot centre Andrew Whitsett and Michigan-born guard Lance Adams, both 26 years of age. A native of California, Whitsett played most recently in Azerbaijan after finishing his senior year at California State University in 2019-2020.
As for Lance Adams, the 6'4" guard is not new to the province, having played 39 games with the London Lightning last year: 6.1 points per game; 1.7 rebounds per game.
"He is a proven winner with two championships and I am very exicted to have him join Sudbury this year," said Stutz. "He is a perfect piece on and off the court for what we want to achieve this season."
