Sure, there were a couple of games where the Sudbury U15 C Lady Wolves enjoyed ample offensive cushion - but for the most part, it was the overall focus on team defense behind a string of four consecutive shutouts that would make the most difference as the locals picked up their third tournament banner in as many tries, capturing the Brampton Cougars 26th Annual Friendship Festival in late February.
Goaltender Mia Moreau was rock solid from start to finish, recording her first of four consecutive clean slates as Sudbury opened with a 2-0 win over the Gloucester-Cumberland Stars. Kassandra Reasbeck and call-up Amanda Syncox drilled home one marker apiece.
Not nearly as much to sweat about in game two as the U15 C Lady Wolves take full advantage of a hat trick from Aaliyah Osawamick-Scarlett and a two goal effort from Marin Wilson, thumping the South Huron Sabres 8-0.
Naomi Gobeil, Jordyn Hampel and Amanda Syncox capped off the scoring for the winners.
Still plenty of breathing room in game three as Hampel scores twice and is joined on the scoresheet by Gobeil, Osawamick-Scarlett and Serena Harris as the Lady Wolves upend the Markdale Shooting Stars 5-0.
The real drama would come in the final as Sudbury and the Upper Maitland Mustangs were deadlocked in a scoreless draw with less than two minutes to play when Aaliyah Osawamick-Scarlett rose to the occasion, providing the margin of victory with 1:43 showing on the clock.
The team will look to keep this momentum going next month when they make their way to provincials with a roster that also includes Alexandra Lawrence, Chloe Ball, Leah Windover, Nevaeh Koostachin, Ava Herbert and Charmaine Webkamigad (injured).
The coaching staff is made up of head coach Ryan Lawrence, assistant coaches Mike Reasbeck and Darren Wilson, trainers Lisa esgagne-Moreau, Reem Fattouh and Sylvain Moreau and manager Tracy Windover.
