Three top-ten finishes and four new personal best performances from a team that numbered just six strong is not a bad wrap at all on the Laurentian Voyageurs Indoor Track & Field season.

A fourth place finish in the 60m sprint final by graduate newcomer Tre Ford highlighted the L.U. weekend at the 2023 OUA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Windsor, the MBA student clocking in 1/100th of a second behind bronze medal winner Niko Dowhos of Lakehead.

In posting a time of 6.81 seconds, Ford eclipsed the school record he had established earlier this winter at the McGill Team Challenge, easily bettering his previous PB of 6.94 seconds.

"Tre came into the OUA Championships ranked ninth and almost came home with a medal, so we are extremely pleased with the work that we did over the past few weeks to see this jump in performance at the right time," noted assistant coach Jim Taylor.

"Tristan (Routhier) is also showing that he will be a force to be reckoned with in both the 60m and 300m at the OUA level."

A second year student in the highly demanding Architecture program, Routhier posted a time of 7.03 seconds in the 60m, matching his PB and finished 14th in the 300m distance, crossing the line in 36.36 seconds.

Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School graduate Kristen Mrozewski was also in top form, lowering her fastest times in both the 1000m (10th in 2:57.91 - nearly a three second PB) and in the 600m (16th in 1:38.28).

Rounding out the L.U. delegation were Naomi Palmer (22nd in 300m - 43.65 - PB; 22nd in 60m - 8.32), Sarah Booth (20th in 1000m - 3:06.67) and Pascale Gendron (16th in 3000m - 10:40.63; 25th in 1500m - 4:59.92).

"Our student-athletes definitely left in all on the track this weekend and that is all that you can really ask at a championship event," noted head coach Darren Jermyn. "We have a young squad so the future is definitely bright."
