A pair of top-end medal performances and one more athlete qualifying for the OUA Championships highlighted the performance of the Laurentian Voyageurs indoor track and field team, competing last weekend at the Sharon Anderson Invitational (University of Toronto).

Coming off a very strong cross-country season in the fall, fifth year psychology and concurrent education student Pascale Gendron not only captured gold in the women's 3,000 metre event (10:21.93), but produced a time that qualifies the Toronto native for the university provincial meet in February.

Meanwhile, second year nursing student Kristen Mrowzewski earned a silver medal as the Lo-Ellen Park Secondary School graduate placed second in the women's 600 metre event in a time of 1:42.12.

Other notable performances on the women's side included fourth year health promotion and concurrent education student Angela Mozzon (5th - 3000m - 10:52.20), a new personal best time, and Naomi Palmer (2nd year kinesilology - 36th place - 60m dash - 8.45 seconds).

For the men, Elliot Lake native and fourth year nursing student Nick Lambert recorded one of two top-ten finishes for the L.U. lads (4th - 3000m - 9:51.46), joined by Lasalle Secondary School product Brandon Radey (1st year nursing - 9th - 600m - 1:28.35).

Other results included:

Patrick Leroux - 12th in 1500 metres - 4:33.92

Kevin Yuan - 15th in 600 metres - 1:38.25

Tristan Routhier - 24th in the 60 metres - 7.20 seconds
Tristan Routhier - 24th in the 300 metres - 38.15 seconds

"Our team continued to train consistently over the Christmas break so this was a great opportunity to get an early season race for a handful of our athletes," noted head coach Darren Jermyn. "Pascale is definitely looking in good form as she led from the gun today in the 3K."

"Kristen just got out dipped in the 600m but ran solid splits to earn that silver. Angela set a 21 second personal best in the 3K, so that was a great way to cap off the meet and get our season rolling again."

The full Laurentian squad will return to action at the Don Wright Team Challenge hosted by Western University on January 21st.
