The Walden Mountain Bike Club (WMBC) Wolfpak feature teams within the team - and that's a very good thing.
With riders young and old on hand, able to share experiences back and forth, a quartet of Wolfpak teams all podiumed at the Summer Epic 8 Hour race at Hardwood Hills earlier this month.
The club greybeards led the way, finishing first in the 3/4 person 120-159 years division as Wolfpak members Paul Guenette and Alex Anstice teamed with non-WMBC rider Edgar Bauman in capturing gold.
Dubbed Team A Farmer, A Builder & Some Other Guy, the locals plus one completed fifteen laps over the eight hour stretch, wrapping up their 15th lap just over ten minutes faster than second place finishers Trek Team 1.
Earning second place honours were JTW Racing (Jamie Sutton, Tanner Sutton, Warner Bain) in the 3/4 person 80-119 years division as well as the Wolfpak Junior Racing Team of Caden Sutton and Ethan Mourre in the 2-person tag 69 and under division.
One lap behind them were WMBC teammates Graydon Bain and Owen Claridge (Wolfpak Jr Racing Team #2), completing 12 laps in a time of 7:42.30.
"These types of races are so much fun when a group like this can spend the whole day together to ride, laugh, talk and ultimately eat - because you can't ride for eight hours without eating," noted Guenette, a very familiar face within the Wolfpak scene for more than a decade now.
"I am very proud of what the Wolfpak has shaped out to be today," he added. "On multiple occasions, there were people cheering for us that no-one knew. That is a result of the Pak making a strong showing at virtually every event throughout the years."
Come September 24th, Hardwood will be the site again as many of these riders reconvene for the Fall Epic 8 Hour Race.
"I am already getting excited for the next eight hour race in the fall," summarized Guenette.
