Sudbury OFSAA soccer glory simply not in the Cards
2019-06-08

The St Charles College Cardinals senior boys soccer team will have to be content with laying claim to being the only SDSSAA representative to advance to OFSAA in their sport this year, after posting a 1-3-0 record at the 2019 OFSAA "AA" Boys Soccer Championships in North Bay last week.

Seeded second in Pool "D" entering play last Thursday, the Cards quickly found out just how difficult their schedule would be, dropping a 3-2 decision to the St Mary Thunder from Cobourg, as Jack Jordan and Adam Szalai handled the scoring for St Charles.

Hope returned, albeit briefly, later that day as the NOSSA champs bounced the Forth Frances High School Muskies 3-0 on goals from Nick G'Nahore, Aiden Ragogna and Adam Szalai.

The bubble was burst early the next morning as the Iona C.S.S. Dolphins from Mississauga stopped the Cardinals 4-1, with Jordan netting his second goal of the tournament.

By mid-afternoon, the team's fate was sealed thanks to a 4-1 loss at the hands of King's Christian Collegiate Cavaliers, as Riley Bridge found the back of the net for SCC coaches Erik and Kristy Hebert.

The gold medal game, set to take place Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in North Bay, will pit the St David Celtics from Waterloo opposite the Mother Teresa CSS Spartans from London, while King's Christian Collegiate will battle the St Mary's Huskies for bronze.
