One individual medal and some very solid all-around performances highlighted the 2019 provincial appearance for the GymZone Sudbury Laurels women's artistic team earlier this month.
With a huge score of 9.533 on the vault, Marin O'Malley (Level 6 Age 12) managed to secure a bronze medal on the event, despite making her very first appearance at the all-Ontario meet. Marin showed, yet again, just how powerful she can be on the vault, noted head coach Terra Davidson.
The only Level 8 competitor in the group at the moment, Rachel Uguccioni (Level 8 Age 15+) cracked the top eight on both the uneven bars (6th place 9.016) and with her floor routine (8th 9.266), just missing that upper echelon in the vault and settling for a 9th place overall ranking.
Abby Managhan (Level 6 Age 13) hit on all four of her events, her score of 9.366 landing her a fourth place ribbon on bars, and remaining solid on the beam, posting a score of 9.20 for 6th. The cumulative effect was an impressive overall total of 36.932, good enough for 7th place in her bracket.
Meanwhile, Abbygayle Dupuis (Level 6 Age 15+) came ever so close to mounting the podium (top eight placements are recognized at provincials), finishing 9th on both the uneven bars and the floor, and 10th on the vault.
Rounding out the list of locals who participated in WAG provincials this year were Chanelle Lazure, Charlee Faragher, Yasmine Larouche and Madysen Mulligan.
