Given a standard goal of simply showing improvement over the course of the competitive season, the collection of talent that is the Sudbury Laurels Women's Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) team could look back with pride on their performance at the Country Hoedown (qualifier #2) in Alliston late last month.

Of the 14 athletes who represented the local club, no less than 11 managed to bump up their overall aggregate score, some fairly significantly. None would have quite the dramatic impact of Chanelle Lazure (Level 6 – age 15), who raised her grand total by a full point with a new personal best of 37.150, displaying incredible consistency by claiming bronze in all four events to earn all-around gold.

A huge silver medal winning vault (9.475 – PB) along with a bronze on the bars was enough to allow Rachel Uguccioni (Level 8 – age 16+) to bump up one notch from an all-around silver in the first qualifier to showing the way, topping the standings in her bracket in qualifier number two.

Performing a beautifully executed bar routine, Abbygayle Dupuis (Level 6 – age 15) added a silver medal of her own to the mix, also demonstrating her elegance in posting noteworthy scores on both the beam (9.475 - 5th) and floor (9.375 – 4th).

Yet another personal best overall aggregate score, this one courtesy of provincial newcomer Yasmine Larouche (Level 6 – age 13), hitting a new high of 36.550 highlighted by a dynamic and well-executed vault (9.25 – silver) en route to a fourth place finish in her classification.

Charlotte Eberlein (Level 7 – age 15) unveiled a new vault, one that would claim silver in the event, and combined that with podium placements in both the floor (silver) and beam (bronze) to walk away with a fourth place all-around aggregate ribbon.

Following is a quick breakdown of the remaining ten Laurels' gymnasts who participated:

Brooklyn Basso (Level 7 – age 13): yet another local athlete who raised over O/A total by a full point, she was rewarded, in a very tough grouping, with top ten placements in both the vault (7th) and bars (8th)

Madysen Mulligan (Level 6 – age 14): managed to finish ninth or better in three of her four events (bars, beam and floor), all while nudging her aggregate score up a smidge

Brielle Charlebois (Level 7 – age 15+): highlights included a 5th place finish on floor and 8th place on the beam

Abigail Dumontelle (Level 6 – age 14): along with avoiding any falls on the beam, she secured a fourth place finish on the floor and 8th on the bars

Naomi Lake (Level 6 – age 10): thanks to her best ever bar routine, she would finish 7th on that event, as well as on her floor routine

Marin O'Malley (Level 6 – age 12): bronze medal on vault

Abby Managhan (Level 6 – age 14): 7th place finish on vault

Chloe Pitura (Level 7 – age 15): stuck her beam routine, earning a 6th place ribbon, to go along with a bronze medal on floor

Isabella Sooley (Level 6 – age 11): top placings were in the vault (9th) and floor (10th)

Next up on the calendar for the WAG contingent is the Bring on the Sun Qualifier, scheduled for February 15th to the 17th in Mississauga.
