The Sudbury Rockhounds are completing some last minute touch-ups, with OLA (Ontario Lacrosse Association) provincials set for early August. The Novice Rockhounds earned silver at a tournament in Halton Hills last weekend, posting a record of 3-2, but unable to overcome the Innisfil Wolfpak.
An 8-6 round robin loss to Innsifil was squeezed between lopsided victories over both the Six Nations Warriors (10-1) and the Centre Wellington Mohawks (14-0), sliding the locals into second place in their pool.
A much better semi-final match-up would see the Sudbury lads trim the previously unbeaten Milton Mavericks 5-3, before falling for a second time to Innisfil (8-5).
Newcomer to the team, Hunter Currie, powered the Sudbury attack, recording 13 goals on the weekend, followed closely by Caleb Mead (12) and Keegan Adair (8). Tyke-aged talent Koda Peltier would net the first two goals of his competitive lacrosse “career”, while Braeden Paradis posted the shutout in this, his first year of donning the gear.
Remaining Rockhounds' goal scorers included Allaura Peltier (2), Jackson Mead, Josh Bell and Andrew Roney, while the coaching staff also noted the work of Alex Rietze on defense, a definite key when the team leaves for the Ontario playdowns from August 10th to 12th in Durham Region.
