When it comes to week-long tournaments like the Central Region Midget "AAA" Championships or the Telus Cup, coach Peter Michelutti Jr knows all too well that the key is simply to put together enough strong showings in round robin play to battle your way in to the final four on semi-final Saturday.

Far more than most, the decade-long bench boss of the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves understood that a pair of very tough losses to open the week (4-2 to Toronto Nationals; 3-2 to Waterloo Wolves) was not the end of the world, as his team competes this week in Rockland.

The Great North Midget League champs got themselves right back in the mix on Wednesday, blanking the previously undefeated Ajax-Pickering Raiders 4-0 behind a 25-save shutout performance from netminder Alex Vendette.

Special teams were key, once again, as Sudbury broke the ice in the first period when defenceman Christopher Clark drilled home a shot on the power-play. Hunter Chiblow netted the only goal of period two to put the Wolves ahead 2-0, and Parker Savard broke the camel's back with a short-handed tally just 1:45 into the third, before Mathieu Dokis-Dupuis capped things off, again on the power-play, midway through the frame.

The victory improves the Nickel Capital Wolves record to 1-2-0, with a pair of games remaining. The locals will close out day four action with a 7:00 p.m. puck drop with the Rockland Nationals, the only remaining unbeaten team at 3-0-0.

The final round robin game for Michelutti Jr and company goes Friday at noon when Sudbury faces the Hawksbury Hawks (0-3-0), with the Wolves currently sitting deadlocked with Toronto (1-2-0), and two points back of both the Raiders (2-1-0) and their Waterloo namesake (2-1-0).
