A three goal second period outburst allowed the Rush to pull away from the Roughnecks in Greater Sudbury Lacrosse Association bantam action last week.

Jackson Stos sandwiched a pair of goals around the second of the game from Zak Thompson in the middle frame, providing the margin of victory in the 5-2 win by the Rush. Sam Dewitt rounded out the scoring for the winners, with Cameron Shanks replying with both goals for the Roughnecks.

A multi-sport athlete, Thompson is also suiting up with the Sudbury Bantam Rockhounds rep team this summer, with lacrosse fitting in right in the middle of his three favourite sports.

"I like lacrosse more than hockey, but I like basketball the most of all," he said. "Basketball is kind of the same offense as lacrosse, but when you cut through in basketball off a pick and roll, there is no one hitting you or pushing you."

The score could have been worse, as Thompson also drilled a pair of shots off the posts, as he works on fine-tuning certain aspects of his game. "Getting a good shot - you have to wait until you're open to try and get the best shot that you can," he suggested.

A second year bantam, Thompson returned to the rep Rockhounds crew, noting a year over year difference. "We're not as big as we were last year," he said. "We have lots of first years, but we're looking good."

Action in the GSLA continues four nights a week, as the group utilizes the facilities at Coniston, Cambrian, Garson and McClelland (Copper Cliff) arenas.
