Two goal performances from both Daks Klinkhammer and Nolan Newton helped to propel the Greater Sudbury Cubs to a 6-2 win over the visiting Powassan Voodoos as the NOJHL league leaders completed their sweep on a home and home series with the Highway 11 crew.
The Cubs went 2/2 on the power play in junping out to a 2-0 lead as both Klinkhammer and Newton converted with the man advantage, joined on the scoresheet by Jacob Lamoureux who potted his fourth goal of the season, later in the frame.
Riley Misa got one back for Powassan, rifling a shot home right off the draw as Owen Kahl won the faceoff cleanly, with the Voodoos finally getting a puck past Stephen Toltl (who recorded a shutout last Saturday in Powassan).
The Cubs increased their lead by two more goals in the second period thanks to Klinkhammer and Newton, the latter coming just a fraction of a second before the second period buzzer sounded.
A chippy third period would see Sam Pivet (Voodoos) and Lucas Signoretti (Cubs) trade tallies just 24 seconds apart at virtually the midway point of the frame as Sudbury extended their current win streak to seven games.
Coach Darryl Moxam and company will face the Espanola Paper Kings this Saturday on the road, back at the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex on Thursday with the Iroquois Falls Storm in town.
