Sparked by a three goal effort from Nathan Villeneuve and two more goals from Chase Coughlan, the Sudbury Wolves recorded their second straight 7-4 pre-season win, this time on the road over the Peterborough Petes.
Villeneuve, a second round pick of the Seattle Kraken this past summer, was flying from start to finish, adding an assist to his stat-line to finish with an impressive +4 plus/minus rating, one that was matched by linemate Kieron Walton (G + 2A).
A fellow NHL draftee, Walton has looked more than ready to take a quantum leap forward this year, registering eight points in three pre-season games to date.
As for Coughlan, who now has three goals and four points in three exhibition games (after finishing last season with 22 points in 61 games), the feisty native of Toronto seems intent on making his case to play a little further up in the lineup than where he was situated throughout the 2023-2024 campaign.
Lucas Di Giantommaso netted the final Sudbury goal while Chase Lefebvre answered with a two-goal effort of his own, joined on the scoresheet by teammate Thanasi Marentette and Genc Ula.
Wolves head coach Scott Barney again split the goaltending duties, with starter Nate Krawchuk (16 saves on 18 shots) and Drew Gaulton (21 saves on 23 shots) each allowing two goals apiece.
With NHL prospects leaving to camps with the big team later this week, the OHL pre-season schedule is on hold until September 17th, with the Wolves returning to action at home on Friday, September 20th when they play host to the Soo Greyhounds.
