Attending the NSU Summer Heat Tournament in Oshawa last weekend, the Team North girls basketball team that will represent the region at the upcoming Ontario Summer Games in London (August 1st to August 4th) served notice that they will be a force to be reckoned with - even against the very best the province has to offer.
Blowing their first three opponents away by more than 50 points per game, the Sudbury-heavy roster cruised into the final before defeating the host team 45-23 in the final, now turning their attention towards what should be stiffer tests at the Games for the talented roster.
Ellie Sauve led Team North against both MUMBA from Markham (6 assists, 7 steals) and Belleville (16 points, 6 assists), recognized as MVP in both encounters.
Earning a bye to the semi-final, the girls upended Oakville Vytis 67-19 as Peyton Tessier dropped a dozen points, grabbed six rebounds and added five steals to earn MVP honours.
In their toughest match of the weekend, the northern reps would turn, once again, to Ellie Sauve (18 pts, 6 rebounds, 10 steals) to show the way past NSU (North Stars United).
The balance of the team roster features Mila Beljo, Mattia Mullen, Kallie Smith, Emma DeMarchi, Allie Vaillancourt, Annakah Kruk, Avery Smith, Daphne Labelle, Elicia Bihina and Sunny Dunlop-Bassett.
