The bats were booming last weekend as the Sudbury 16U Voyageurs swept a three-game set from the Oshawa 15U Legionaires, plating 36 runs in the comfort of their home venue, the Terry Fox Sports Complex.
The pitching also more than held its own as Braiden Paul kicked off the trend, limiting Oshawa to just one run while striking out nine over five innings of work as Sudbury outscored the visiting crew 9-1 in game one.
Ethan Thompson and Ryan Spencer sported near identical stat lines as both lads finished with two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs to help lead a well-balanced attack in which the top six Voyageurs in the batting order came around to score at least once each.
Tanner Morris came on in relief of Braiden Paul and while a save wasn't on the table, he still pitched well, striking out four over a pair of scoreless innings.
The final two games would see the Sudbury coaching staff unveil a pair of new starting pitchers in the rotation as both Will Burns and C.C. Chamberlain got their first shot in the role.
Touched for five runs in three innings, Burns would see his mates rally late, scoring 11 times in the final two innings and bouncing the Legionaires 15-5. Ethan Thompson went 4/4 with three runs and three RBIs while Colton Nowoselsky posted a trio of threes in all three of those categories.
Gabriel Larocque was 2/2 with a pair of walks, scoring three times and driving in a pair while Landen Creasey and Max Arnold also joined the multi-hit club. Facing the minimum of six batters in two innings of work, pitcher Chris St. Germain earned the win as the locals came from behind to overtake the Legionaires.
C.C. Chamberlain rebounded from a tough opening inning in game three, blanking Oshawa in the second and then handed the ball over to Ryan Spencer, A.J. Dubeau and Max Arnold who posted nothing but zeros on the board for the ensuing seven innings as the Voyageurs took the Sunday finale, 12-3.
Spencer looked particularly sharp, holding the Legionaires hitless over three innings of work, allowing one base on ball and fanning a pair as Sudbury amassed no less than 13 hits, including three from Brody Mabbott and a pair from Braiden Paul.
Ethan Thompson racked up three ribbies, with Spencer, Paul and Mabbott all chipping in with two each while 11 different Sudbury players accounted for the team's dozen runs.
The 16U Voyageurs are enjoying a rare weekend off before hosting the Tecumseh Thunder for a three game set on June 15th and 16th at the Terry Fox Sports Complex.
