For the second time in as many NOJHL playoff series', the Greater Sudbury Cubs have posted back to back shutouts.
After registering a 2-0 whitewashing of the Powassan Voodoos Friday night at home to even the best of seven affair at a game apiece, the Cubs ventured out of town and turned the trick again, this time by a final count of 5-0 Sunday night in Powassan.
Defenceman Brock Houser netted the only goal of the opening period for the visitors just 3:10 into the contest but it wasn't until the 16:21 mark of the second that they doubled their advantage as Marshall McCharles converted on a pass from Hudson Martin.
The West Division champs blew the game wide open in third on goals from Hudson Chitaroni, Noah Kohan and Chitaroni, with his second as Noah Metivier turned aside 48 shots in earning a well-deserved shutout.
On Friday, Metivier had to share the honours with Noah Beaulne as the former was forced to retire from a scoreless game at the end of the second period due to illness.
The front-end loaded schedule of the final continues Monday night in Powassan with game four, with game five set for Thursday back at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
