A pair of competitions dotted the schedule of the Sudbury Artistic Swim Club last month as both veterans and newcomers to the crew made their way around the province.

Taking part in the Leslie Taylor Ontario Cup (February 8th-11th in Markham), the highly experienced tandem of Eva Jessup and Heidi Fink enjoyed success in all facets of the competition, with the highlight coming in the Junior Duet where the locals finished second in a field of 16 teams with a high score of 99.756.

Jessup was also 3rd in the championship solo (148.4906), fifth in solo routine (83.5542) and 6th (of 123) with a figure score of 64.9364, while Fink finished in the upper tier of her solo (6th of 18) with a score of 92.4333.

Working closely with the two northern girls were club head coach Courtney Stasiuk-Mohr along with Emily Binks.

The next weekend would see the 11-12 and junior regional teams heading to Ottawa, site of the North/East Winter Regional Meet, with the club youngsters showing particularly well in their first ever event as a team.

Placing third of seven in their bracket with a routine score of 48.2333 and championship score of 93.5000 was the Sudbury collection of talent that is Leah Fosten (tied for 5th of 40 in figures - 49.6667), Bella Perron (tied for 5th - 49.6667), Hannah Edwards (15th - 45.5000), Sophie Patry (26th - 42.3333) and Brielle Fudge (34th - 39.1667), with Gillian FRanklin and Amy Lacelle handling the coaching duties.

With a score of 54.1000, the Sudbury junior team ranked 4th in the region but tops in the north.

While the club did not send any swimmers to the recent Ontario Winter Games in Thunder Bay, both Jenni Calford-Binks and Stephanie Westphal attended as judges.

March will allow for more preparation time as the provincial duet targets the Hilton Invitational from April 4th to 7th in Markham while the regional teams are back in Ottawa on the weekend of April 20th-21st for their second of two meets.
