The north would not be denied, with the local entry in particular showing the way in the U15A Division of the Mississauga Hurricanes Winter Classic Tournament last weekend.
The Sudbury Lady Wolves and Timmins Falcons would finish 1-2 in a pool of five teams, with coach Steve Gallo and company picking up their second banner of the season thanks to a 5-0 whitewashing of the Falcons in the final.
The Lady Wolves wasted little time making their presence felt, grounding one of two host Hurricanes teams 6-0 in their opener as Avery Mininni paced the attack with a pair of goals.
Ryan Snow, Joely Angus, Trinity Cheechoo and Makayla Paris scored one goal each for the winners with Emilie Joly recording the shutout in net for Sudbury.
The first of two matchups with the Timmins crew would be a high scoring affair, with the locals racking up a 5-3 win thanks in large part to two-goal performances by both Joely Angus and May Corson, after Makayla Paris broke the ice earlier in the game.
The weather patterns were no more favourable for the southern entries in game three as Sudbury blanked the North Halton Twisters 2-0 on markers from Paris and Angus, with Emilie Joly and Zara Daoust sharing the shutout.
More of the same in game four as the U15A girls close out round robin play at 4-0 thanks to a 3-0 win over the second Mississauga entry. The offense was provided courtesy of Juliana Thériault, Khalan Judd and Makayla Paris, with Daoust running the flawless streak between the Sudbury pipes to two full games.
Make it three straight zeroes on the board as Emilie Joly turned aside an early penalty shot before seeing her team get untracked with a run of five strikes (Joely Angus-3; Ryan Snow; May Corson) as the Lady Wolves look to carry their good fortune into league play next weekend.
Sitting in fourth place in a division of nine teams with a record of 5-5-1, the U15A Sudbury contingent are hosting the Durham West Lightning for a pair of games that are being rolled into the schedule of the Snowflake Challenge Tournament at Countryside Arena.
Rounding out the 2023-2024 Sudbury U15A Lady Wolves roster are Dalia Belanger, Lia Gallo, Anika Rhéaume, Valérie Prevost, Carrington Parise, Ella Gatien and Rowan Flood.
