It was cold but thankfully not raining, though still challenging to mount much in the way of an offensive attack as the SDSSAA Junior Girls Flag Football banners were decided Tuesday night at the James Jerome Sports Complex.

The Division B final would see the St Benedict Bears hand the Marymount Regals their first setback of the year, blanking the regular season champs 14-0.

Quarterback Ella O'Shaughnessy connected on a 32 yard pass and run with wide receiver Elsa Blum in the first half and Caileigh Ryan added a rushing touchdown late in the contest, with Reece Chaumont-Fortier making good on both converts.

The St Benedict defense, which had surrendered a total of 54 points in their seven games leading into the final, picked a great time to register their third shutout of the season.

With Junior Division "B" flag football being contested for just the second time this fall, St Benedict joins the Horizon Aigles (2022) as the only teams to emerge victorious in the grouping at season's end.

The nightcap on Tuesday would see the Bishop Carter Gators defend their Junior Division "A" title, also recording the shutout with a 7-0 whitewashing of the St Charles College Cardinals.

The Gators scored on the very last play of the opening half, foregoing the opportunity to try for a field goal and pretty much assure themselves a single in the low scoring affair.

Running back Chloe Leduc allowed the Bishop folk to come out smelling like a rose when she gained the far corner and somehow evaded three flag snatchers in her final ten yard dash to the end zone.

Kicker Makinly Bertrand made it a seven point game with the PAT and from that stage on, it was up to the BAC defensive unit to hold the fort, with St Charles threatening in their most serious way on the very final drive of the game.

The Cards would string together three or four good distanced completions, but having to march pretty much the length of the field and with only five plays to do it, would come up just short in the end.

The senior finals are set for Wednesday as the Champlain Requins and Marymount Regals meet in the Division B final while the Lasalle Lancers and Bishop Carter Gators go toe to toe in the "A" encounter at 8:00 p.m. - both games are at James Jerome.
