Two different weeks; two different positions; two different divisions of play - but one very common thread that connected Lasalle Lancers' senior flag football quarterback Madyson Biladeau to Bishop Alexander Carter Gators' junior running back Jillian Landry.
In being named as the Most Valuable Players in their respective Lancer Flag Football Showcase tournaments recently, there was little doubt that Biladeau and Landry had a shared vision of what they needed to do to help lead their teams to victory - even if they did it in vastly different ways.
Biladeau would throw for a total of 28 passing touchdowns as the Lasalle senior girls posted a 3-0 record in pool play, survived an overtime scare from the Horizon Aigles to capture their semi-final encounter 4-3 before besting the Bishop Carter Gators seniors by that same score in the final.
Not only did Biladeau find favourite target Ocean Avery (7 TDs; 4 INT) for the game-winning score in the semis, she sealed her lasting legacy on the tournament by playing a stint at middle linebacker, intercepting a pass and returning it to the end zone for what would be the decisive score in the gold medal game.
Theresa Gauthier added six touchdowns on the day for Lasalle as a total of eight senior teams gathered at the Lancer Dome on Wednesday, April 19th. Joining Biladeau, Avery and Gauthier on the Lancers' roster are Julia Anderson, Precious Idemudia, Promise Idemudia, Caitlin Svlinski, Adasyn Radey, Emilie Lefebvre, Kaylee Vaillancourt, Carly Frood and coach Lance Patrie.
That same number of junior squads would make their way there one week earlier as Jillian Landry ran for ten majors in helping the Gators to a 2-1 mark in pool play (St Charles College beat them 4-3 but then lost a 5-4 decision to the Marymount Regals in semi-final action), edging Lasalle 4-3 in their SF and outscoring Marymount 7-3 in the final.
Cameron O'Daiskey added six touchdowns and three interceptions for BAC, while Reese Williamson also chipped in offensively (five TDs), Myra Balfe (four INT) doing likewise defensively for the Gators.
Landry was following up on an outstanding fall outdoor campaign in which she scored the only major of the junior city final, a 6-3 win over Lasalle, earning her Junior Division MVP honours at the year-end awards banquet back in the fall.
Rounding out the BAC junior winning roster are Abi Paradis, Addison Gibbs, Caedene Troscinski, Emma Gervais, Gracie Laframboise, Haley MacDonald, Jade Prentice, Jaida Chartrand, Kaleigh Hamilton, Kaylei Simard, Kenna McNeil, Sophie Patterson, Tyla MacLeod and coaches Karley McGlade and Kat Cameron.
