With players chipping in, each in their own way, right across the roster, the Valley East U11 Voyageurs worked their way through to the final of a season-ending tournament in Hunstville, dropping an 11-10 heartbreaker to the Collingwood Blue Jays in the championship affair.
Offensively, Gillis O'Daiskey belted a pair of triples, coming around to score three times, a figure that was matched by Ty Belanger, with Evan Ouimet, Joe Leduc, Ben Kawa and Justin Mrochek all adding one run apiece.
Slugger Landen Creasey drove in a trio of runs, as the Voyageurs led through the opening four innings, before the Blue Jays rallied for the win.
Defensively, the locals would shine right across the diamond, with Brady Holden making a huge catch, in the outfield, to provide some early momentum, while Trent Peters was a wall at second base, getting his body behind everything that came his way.
Brett Rienguette started the game on the mound, fanning five hitters by the end of the third inning as the Voyageurs overcame the untimely absence of Pierce Mills, who still managed to rally the troops with his pre-game speech.
Though the season was anything but standard, Valley East coaches Scott Rienguette, Joel Belanger, Dan Cameron and Michael Creasey were pleased with the progress of their youngsters over the course of the past few months.
