Sudbury Jam within a bucket or two of OBL opponents
2019-03-27
by Randy Pascal

The Sudbury 15U Jam Boys took the plunge, recently, challenging themselves with a pair of games against Ontario Basketball League (Division B) opposition.

Adjusting to a very different pace of play, the Jam came up six points shy of the Whitby Wildcats, despite a 24 point - seven rebound performance from Ethan Scott. Teammate Andrew Kilby was an absolute beast on the boards, hauling in 15 rebounds while chipping in with an even dozen points.

Contributing with six points and four rebounds was Andrew Lewis. Now acclimatized to the higher level of play, the Sudbury lads would take the Barrie Royals to overtime in game two, dropping a tightly contested decision by just a bucket.

"Our boys showed incredible grit and determination, coming back from a 26-10 deficit to send it into overtime," noted Jam head coach Mike Scott. Ethan Scott led all scorers with 43 points and 7 rebounds, including a 20/25 stat line on his trips to the charity stripe.

Dax Mazzuchin (11 points/3 rebounds), Andrew Kilby (11 points/13 rebounds) and Charlie Hennessey (8 points) were all prominent, as well, throughout the contest. "I am very proud of our boys," added coach Scott.

"I believe we will be even better in two weeks with the addition of Liam Conlin, who missed the weekend due to a conflicting hockey tournament. We are getting recognition down south, which is much deserved because of the hard work these boys put into the game."
