Minor Peewee Sons and Wolves split a mid-week series
2018-10-06
by Randy Pascal

Both local Minor Peewee "AAA" teams would take advantage of their home ice venue this week, as the Nickel City Sons and Sudbury Wolves split a pair of games on back to back nights.

Wednesday night in Walden, the Sons would score once in each period, eking out a 3-1 win as Will Mackey, Seth Lagadin and Karsen Deschenes all lit the lamp for the homeside. Starting netminder Jacob Bradley turned aside 14 of the 15 shots that he faced, earning the win between the pipes.

Grant Booth managed the only tally for the visitors, netting an unassisted second period goal which temporarily evened the contest at 1-1. Declan McNamara faced 19 shots in net for Sudbury.

The Wolves wasted little time earning some revenge the very next night at the Carmichael Arena, with Caleb Walker opening the scoring in the opening minute of play and setting the tone for a 4-1 win.

Ian Burnett added a pair of goals for the winners, with Keynan Kydd adding the other, while Lucas Dubois replied in a losing cause for Nickel City. Sudbury goaltender Eli Lampi outduelled his counterpart Wesly Richer, at the other end of the rink, finishing the evening with a 21-save performance.

The Sons resume league action next weekend, welcoming the Timmins North Stars to Chelmsford for a three-game set, while Sudbury is off (in terms of Northern Ontario "AAA" Hockey League play) until early November, when they stage another mid-week home and home series with the Sons.
