Lachapelle and the Knights off and running
by Randy Pascal

In a highly condensed schedule, a quick start to the season is critical. The Lo-Ellen Park Knights senior boys soccer team could not have asked for much more from week one of the SDSSAA Senior Premier Boys schedule.

The Knights racked up their second straight win, both by way of the shutout, blanking the Confederation Chargers by a score of 3-0. Jacob Socransky netted his second and third tallies of the young campaign, with Owen Coles rounding off the scoring and keeper Lucas Lachapelle extending his streak of not allowing a goal to 160 minutes.

The Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes appear to also be in the mix with the Senior Boys elite this year, stopping the Sacré Coeur Griffons 4-0 in their inaugural match. Viktor Bulic, Keenan Rocca, Noah LaSorsa and Nicholas Rumford scored once each for the Als, while Sean Roberts recorded the shutout, as Hunter Adams is sidelined with a foot injury.

The St Charles College Cardinals Open Premier Girls team are firing on all cylinders, following up a 6-0 win over Lo-Ellen with a 7-0 whitewash of the Macdonald-Cartier Panthères.

Hannah Whyte drilled a hat trick, Lexie McNamara chipped in with a two-goal effort, and Emma Dionne and Nora Dzuirban scored once each for the winners.

The Marymount Regals kicked off their season with a two-win week, edging the Collège Notre-Dame Alouettes 1-0 on Thursday. Allie Weiler accounted for the game's only goal, while Tyanna Soucy picked up her second clean slate of the year in the win.

The St Charles senior boys matched the effort of their female counterparts, downing the Sacré Coeur Griffons 6-0, thanks in large part to a very balanced attack. Aidan Martel, Jack Jordan, Adam Szalai, Nick Gnahore and Matt Belanger all found their way on to the scoresheet.

Action resumes on Monday with another slate of four games at the James Jerome Sports Complex, beginning at 2:00 p.m.
