Manitoulin Panthers pull free of Minor Atom Wolves
2018-01-01
by Randy Pascal

Backstopped by a 20-save performance from goaltender Kallan Jones and sparked offensively by a two goal effort from Kohyn Eshkawkogan, the Manitoulin Atom "B" Panthers downed the Sudbury Minor Atom "AA" Wolves 5-2 Saturday morning at the Gerry McCrory Sports Complex.

The win allowed the Panthers to pull two points free of the Wolves, as Manitoulin now sports a record of 5-4-1, good for fourth place in the NDMHL (Nickel District Minor Hockey League) Atom Division I standings, just ahead of Sudbury at 4-7-1.

Gage Hughson, Corbin Best and Keannu Bisschops rounded out the scoring for the Panthers, with Dawson Morris and Brock Batchelor both solving Jones in the third period of play for the homeside.

The Minor Atom Wolves are facing a busy schedule to kick off the new calendar year, battling the Nickel City Knights on Thursday and then facing both the Panthers and Knights on Saturday, with games at 12:15 and 6:30 p.m.

Winners of four of their last five games, the Manitoulin crew are off until their rematch with the Wolves, closing out their Saturday with a matchup against the Nickel City Minor Atom "AA" Jr Sons later in the afternoon.
