Flyers fed to the Wolff, blanked by the Warriors
2016-09-18
by Randy Pascal

Goaltenders Hayden Wolff and Abigail Calvank were in mid-season form Sunday at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, as a pair of Nickel City Hockey bantams teams hooked up in a pre-season affair.

Finn Bonany broke a scoreless tie, netting the game-winner with 5:23 to play in the middle stanza, adding an insurance empty net marker with just 39 seconds to play as the Nickel City Westside Minor Bantam "A" Warriors blanked the Nickel City Minor Bantam Flyers 2-0.

Wolff turned aside 21 shots in registering the shutout, with the Flyers' attack balanced evenly, as the team fired seven shots at Wolff in each of the three periods. Calvank turned aside 15 shots between the pipes for the Flyers, as the teams combined for just three minor penalties, in total, in this very tame encounter.

Preston Robert and Mathew Gordon drew assists on the first Bonany goal, with Sam Dewit drawing the only helper on the second.
