A Grade 8 student at Carl A Nesbitt
Public School, Kristine Lalonde will enter the secondary school
scene with a pretty impressive athletic resume to her credit. A
participant for many years in hockey, soccer and track and field,
it’s on the basketball court where the shooting star has made the
most noise.
As she sees it, there’s a very
straight forward reason to like basketball over hockey. “In hockey,
you have so much equipment to put on and take off” she laughs. Truth
be told, there is an obvious passion the moment the basketball
enters her hands that there really isn’t much of a choice necessary
at all.
“I absolutely love the sport
(basketball) – I’m really trying to work hard at it but I love it”
said Lalonde. A member of the BDP program these past two years,
Lalonde successfully led Nesbitt to the elementary school
championship in May and is looking to make the Provincial team this
summer.
In addition to playing with the
Sudbury Lakers this spring, Lalonde also joined the Can Stars at a
tournament in Toledo/ Ohio, with the team posting an impressive 5-0
record. She remains focused on continuing to develop her pull-up
jumper and “right now, keep up with my sports and my homework.”
