If
there was any rust to Jaimee Lafraniere’s curling game, she
certainly didn’t let it show in the recent Elementary Curling
championships. Despite taking this year off curling in order to
concentrate on her soccer abilities, the Grade 7 student at R.L.
Beattie skipped her team to a 6-5 win over Felix-Ricard in the final
game.
“The competition was pretty good – that was a pretty strong team
from Felix-Ricard” noted Lafraniere, whose older brother Ryan formed
part of the Jamie Morphet junior men’s team that represented
Northern Ontario at the nationals one year ago. But for younger
sister, soccer is the sport of choice these days.
An accomplished young netminder, Lafraniere has been playing soccer
since she was four or five, having joined the Panhellenic Hotshots
one year ago. She is currently working out with Regional coach Brian
Ashton and a crew of twenty or so local female athletes. |
