A Grade 8 student at Jessie Hamilton in
Lively, there are few sports that Erika Kiviaho does not enjoy. But
at or near the top of the list for the talented youngster is
ringette, a sport she states is “fast and involves a lot of
teamwork.”
In addition to her prowess on the ice
with the Valley East Tweens, Kiviaho is also well-known locally as a
top notch track & field athlete, training at Laurentian with Track
North coach Dick Moss. At Jessie Hamilton, the cheerful Kiviaho has
participated in basketball, volleyball and cross-country running as
well as elementary track meets.
As a member of the Regional Tween
ringette team, she joins forces with teammates from across the
North. “Some come from as much as four hours away” she explains,
noting that “when we’re on our game, we can beat any team.” The
Tweens came home as provincial silver medalist, edged 4-3 by Chatham
in the gold medal game. |
