Sid Segsworth back in
winning form at Idylwylde Senior
Idylwylde Senior
Invitational
The tug of war between Dave Pulkkinen
and Sid Segsworth continues at the Idylwylde Senior
Invitational. Segsworth, who last won the event in 2005, snapped a
two-year string for Pulkkinen, picking up a one stroke victory over
Tim Gordon of Lively. Segsworth shot a 72, Gordon 73 with Elmer
DeBenedet (Lively) and John Wellard (North Bay) both two
more shots back at 75.
Tod Landriault of Lively rounds out the
top five with a 76, the same score that North Bay's Don Miller
posted in capturing the second flight. Remaining flight winners
included Ken Ellis (Timberwolf - 81), Leo Boudreau
(Lively - 84), Noah Bertuzzi (Idylwylde) and Ray Dugas
(Forest Ridge) in the sixth and final flight.
Junior Golf - 2008 John Hause Memorial
Despite the fact that golf courses these
days seem to include their fair share of younger duffers, numbers
remain down for tournament play at the Junior level and below. Such
was the case with the 2008 John Hause Memorial, an event that drew
well over a hundred golfers just a few years back, topping out at 45
entries this time around.
In the end, Eric Hatton took
advantage of home club membership to shoot the day's low score,
capturing the Juvenile division with a 73, one shot better than
Cory Vaillancourt and four up on Taylor Dupuis and Aashu
Garg. Brennan Doyle of the Timberwolf took top spot in the
Junior ranks, carding a 76, comfortably ahead of Alex Lisowski
and Scott Wiseman.
Nick Quesnel
finished first among the Bantam golfers, recording a very respectable
score of 80 while Casey McNeil matched that tally in winning
the Girls category.
2008 NOPGA Pro-Pro Best Ball
Just five shots separated the field, top to bottom, as the NOPGA
hosted their annual Pro-Pro Best Ball event. When the dust settled, it
was the Pine Grove Golf Club tandem of George Lacko and
Brendan Burns-Fournier who would earn bragging rights this time
around, shooting a one-under par 71 at the Idylwylde Golf & Country
Club.
A pair of teams just one stroke back as
both the Idylwylde tandem of Ryan Bastien and Kyle Paquette
and the Timberwolf family connection of Sam and Nick Yawney
carded even par 72's. Paul Schweyer (Idylwylde) teamed with
Sault Ste Marie pro Jeff Hamilton in posting a score of 73
while Kevin Poole/Cam Muirhead (Ridge at Manitou - 74) and
Jeff Mancini/Tyler Hummel (North Bay G & CC - 76) round out the
field.
