WolfPak racers a mainstay at Opus Epic Spring Relay
2019-05-16

The Opus Epic Spring 8 Relay is, quite truthfully, a testament to both the longevity and the success of the WMBC (Walden Mountain Bike Club) WolfPak Racing Team.

The local group not only sent representation to this early season event for the 11th straight year, every single spring since the club was launched in 2009, but once again saw two of their teams mount the podium.

The duo of Paul Guenette and Annie Nanowski claimed top spot in the Two Person Mixed category, completing 14 laps in a time of eight hours, nine minutes and 54 seconds.

Nearly matching that accomplishment was a Four Person Open crew that included WolfPak racers Nick Carrier and Luukas Ovaska, as well as race-day teammates Kevin Miller and Adam Galt.

The quartet placed second in their division, racing through 15 laps in a time of 8:29:14. A Four Person Mixed team that included WMBC mainstay Rob St Marseille as well as friends April Blaylock, Pat Diotte and Mike D'Aoust slipped into seventh place at 8:13:24 (12 laps).

Finally, providing the inspiration in the Two Person Open 70-99 classification were the Sulphur Kings, as Kristian Bischkoff and Jody Wadell pedalled their way through ten laps in 7:10:16, good enough for 13th place.

Just a week earlier, Luukas Ovaska officially opened the summer of 2019 for the WMBC WolfPak, taking part in the Scott Ontario Cup XCO #1 at the Woodnewton Cyling Centre. Ovaska took fifth place in the Junior Sport category in a time of 1:21:13.

The team is back in action on May 26th at the Albion Hills Conservation Area, heading south for the Scott Ontario Cup XCO #2.
