A Storm sweep is nice - but there is still some work to be done
2024-02-01

The Sudbury U14 Storm girls are able to score the basket.

Now comes the time to focus a little more effort to the other end of the court.

So noted head coach Steve Dunlop, even as his young squad picked up a pair of wins last weekend in OBL (Ontario Basketball League) play, beating the Belleville Spirits (49-40) and the Ottawa Next Level (52-45).

"It's still (early in) the season and we have some work to do on our defensive end," Dunlop stated to SudburySports.com correspondent Ken Campbell, on site at the HoopDome.

"But we had good composure to finish the game and some really good energy from key players like Kyra Lefebvre, Sophie Loiselle and Mila Beljo. We got good team contributions from Sophie Roy, Avery Smith and Beatrice Moulton."

Offensively speaking, a quartet of Storm athletes stood out from the crowd as Ellie Sauvé (11), Mattia Mullen (10) and Sophie Zubert (6) paced the attack in game one while Sauvé (19), Sunny Dunlop (12) and Zubert (5) topped the charts in game two.

Assisting head coach Steve Dunlop with the northern crew is assistant coach and long-time educator Ghislain Roy.
